I did mine when i was 12 with my school but i expect you could find a dive centre near where you live. ask about when their next course is and how expensive it will be and where you will be doing it. try and do it somewhere warm. You will do any number of pool training sessions, a theory exam, then 4 open water (natural body of water open to the sky) dives. It was freezing but i did it all the same. I did mine at Europes best dive centre Stoney Cove, UK it was really cold but i did it all the same. You're suitable as long as your a confident swimmer and are calm and relaxed. You will learn everything about basic scuba, from how to treat the environment to Decompression Ilness and your RDP (Recreational Dive Planner). anyway have fun and good luck.
References :
Me - PADI Jr Master Scuba Diver

I wanted to take the course when my brother did at 16 but I was only 13 and was not allowed. I think PADI certification has a minimum age, not sure bout PADI Jr. I did take the PADI certification course when I was 15 and had very little problems. While my father was already certified, he still attended the classes and went on dives with me.
References :
personal experience

I know a 10 or 11 year old who is an Advanced Open Water Jr.
It's not hard at all and it's really fun! The course I took was all kids.
Each course will vary some bit, but you will learn basic skills such as:
Breathing properly underwater
Emergency routines for above and underwater
Taking off your mask and putting it back on underwater
Ways to enter the water
ascents/descents

such things as that. If you are of age to get a certification you should definitely try! It doesn't really matter how old you are. You just have to be willing to be serious and have fun.
References :
I learned how to dive this summer.

That all depends on the person.
Even though there are age restrictions, how the course runs doesn't really depend on age, but how smart and mature the student is.

You may be 11 years old but if you are mature enough to pay attention in class, and follow directions well, then you will have no problem getting certified.

The certification classes are not designed to trick you or fail you so that the dive shops can make money. They are designed to teach you the basics and the safety requirements so that when you go in the open water, you don't run in to trouble and if you do run in to problems, you won't panic and surface with minimal injuries. If you have questions about anything, don't be afraid to raise your hand and ask. Remember, dive masters and instructors do not want to fail you or not teach you properly so that if you get in to trouble, they don't want it coming back to them. They are there to teach you and go over everything over and over again until you understand everything.

They will teach you how to put on and use the gear (BCD, Regulator, octopus, gauge console, mask/snorkel, weight belt, fins), what it will be like under water, how to clear your mask if it gets full of water, managing depth and what to expect under water pressure, managing bouyancy. hand signals, how to surface, how to equalize.. and other things that you will need to know when going under water. It may sound like a lot but it really isn't.
You will be in class for book reading and videos to watch. Then they will take you to a pool to go over exercises, and skills.
Then there will be a checkout dives, in a quarry or actually in the ocean (usually no deeper than 25 to 30 feet) and you will be certified.

Swimming isn't important in diving. Yes you will have to swim laps in the pool and tread water for 10 to 15 minuts to show your swimming ability but once you are under water, your swimming skill is not used.

It's fun, I have Advanced Open Water certification and I don't dive as often as I would like to (only about 3 times a year) but still it is an awesome sport and cool skill to brag to your friends about :)

Good luck.
References :
No, it is not difficult; and yes, you can be suitable, but it takes responsibility to be safe and you have to be a fairly strong swimmer. 11 yo's can SCUBA, mine did in the pool. I got my open water certification when I was 14 and I love it. The best thing is go to the dive shop and ask an instructor to evaluate your abilities. You need to tread water, take a mask full of water and release it (called clearing) and swim some distance. The instructor may ask why you want to SCUBA dive? This is important to see how motivated you are to learning this activity. You will be learning alot! You will study about equipment, water rescue techniques and CPR, what to do in an emergency, including buddy breathing or dropping your equipment, the ocean's environment.and sea life, and decompression tables to keep from having a diving accident. Remember, the instructor is signing your card that you are old enough to bear this responsibity to dive safely. The card will enable you to buy equipment, air, and go on boat dives with others. I know you will enjoy it like I have for 35 years. Also, it can be a great opportunity for future employment, if you desire. If the instructor thinks you're too young, you can always try SNUBA. It's like Hard Hat diving where air comes from the surface to you by a long hose regulator, instead of carrying tanks on your back. Have fun and good luck.
References :
As an 13 year old, you can easily get your Jr open water as long as you don't suffer medical complications such as some breathing disorders. Your limitations are that you must dive with a certified adult and go no deeper than 40 feet. This will change when you get to 15. Your Jr certification gets bumped up to that of a regular open water diver (no cost) at that age and you can dive with either adults or others your age, but not younger, as a buddy. Your depth limit also then goes down to 60 ft. If you choose, the advanced open water certification is now open for you to start as well, allowing you to both dive deeper and to take other courses.
You'll learn some science , responsibility and how to co operate in a team. You'll also make new friends.
References :
I am not sure what a " PADI Jr" is, but if you want to take scuba diving classes then you'll probably half to get your parents permission for it. You could probably take a pre-teens class or something. I think that would be a lot of fun and Im sure you could do it as long as you have permission. Good luck!
